Hot Buttered Rum

Well, it is December and the temperatures have been a bit on the chilly side. Still a fairly warm WI winter but cold nonetheless. As such, I felt the the Drink of the Week should be a more wintery drink. Hell, next weeks might just that as well. Who know…

Anyways, some of the Winter drinks tend to get a little complex. So, I sought to make this weeks super easy to make. Frankly, it doesn’t get any easier than this. So, I present the Hot Buttered Rum.

  • 1 or 2 shot(s) Rum
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Butter
  • 4 Cloves
  • 1 Cinnamon Stick
  • Boiling Water
First, put the sugar, butter, and cloves in a mug. Add the Rum. Stir well so that the sugar is dissolved. Drop the Cinnamon stick in and fill the mug with the hot water. Stir again.

I originally wanted to do a whiskey drink as that tends to be the common liquor with winter, at least with the people I know, but Rum is a good one as well. When it comes to winter, you almost never associate something like Tequila with it. The hot water adds some warmth and the cinnamon and cloves add some spice to make this the trifecta winter drink that is easy to make. The butter offers a nice smoothing touch.
