Rum Nog

It is nearly Christmas and what is THE Christmas drink whether it has alcohol or not? Egg Nog of course. But nonalcoholic just doesn’t work for me. Nor should it for you. So, enjoy this excellent Christmasy Holiday Drink. Oh by the way, this is just to make one glass. Want more? Multiply the recipe.


  • 1 Large Egg
  • 2 tsp Sugar
  • 1 oz Heavy Cream
  • 1/2 tsp Almond Extract
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1-2oz Dark Rum
  • Cinnamon
  • Nutmeg

FYI, this is a pretty intense recipe to make. If you can cook, this should be no problem.

Anyways, separate the egg into two bowls. This means the egg yolk goes in one and the white goes in another. A simple way of doing this is when you crack the shell, keep moving the yolk from one half of the shell to the other. This causes the white to gradually empty.

Now, beat the yolk stiff. Beat the white and 1tsp sugar until it starts making peaks.Essentially the end result would be you stop the beater and the yolk and sugar look like an ocean and that doesn’t move.

Now you must “fold” the yolk and the white together. This is done so they do not deflate. But the yolk on top and than fold the white on top of it. There really is no better way I can think of to describe it. Just don’t mix as that will bring undesired results.

You now have to do some more beating. This time, beat the heavy cream with the rest of the sugar and the vanilla and almond extract. This is until it is stiff.

Fold this into the egg mixture. Add the rum and stir ever so gently. Than, plop it into the refrigerator and let it sit overnight. Once done, poor into a glass and garnish(sprinkle) the cinnamon and nutmeg on top of it.

You could probably also substitute brandy or whiskey or probably any darker liquor in for the rum if you so desired.

And there you have it! This incredibly festive but incredibly difficult drink to make is great for those Christmas parties.
